Huddlestone Park will be site of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation event Sept. 30
A community healing event to support the survivors of residential schools is making a return this weekend.
When Nanaimo comedian Peter Hudson and Tyler Bob of Snaw-Naw-As First Nation created the first Orange Day in the Bay festival two years ago, they purposely held it on Canada Day at a time when grave sites of Indigenous children were being discovered at former residential school locations across the country.
“I want people to understand that some of the time, the deep trauma that my grandparents and family went through … it was like always being told to be quiet, stay in the corner and that your opinion doesn’t matter … It’s what everybody was raised up with,” Bob said.
