A Manitoba officer who died in the line of duty is being remembered today for his service and sacrifice.
Special Constable Robert William Cochrane Thomas was raised on Peguis First Nation and worked as a band constable before joining the RCMP on Jan. 4, 1985.
On March 6, 1986, Thomas was checking on the occupants of a vehicle to see if they needed assistance. After speaking with them and turning to walk back to his patrol car, the driver shot him in the back.
