Premier Main announces cabinet portfolios

Premier John Main today announced portfolios for the Executive Council of the 7th Legislative Assembly.

“There is a great deal of work to be done, and we are ready to face the challenges,” said Premier Main. “We hear you and will put our attention to the issues you face every day. In the coming weeks, in consultation with our partners, we will set the mandate for the next four years, and build our future step by step.”

Premier Main will also serve as Minister of Executive and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of Finance. Cabinet ministers have been assigned the following departmental portfolios:

  • Deputy Premier, Minister of Justice and Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Nunavut, the Honourable George Hickes.
  • Government House Leader, Minister of Education and Minister responsible for Nunavut Arctic College, the Honourable David Akeeagok.
  • Minister of Health, the Honourable Janet Pitsiulaaq Brewster.
  • Minister of Family Services and Minister responsible for Qulliq Energy Corporation, the Honourable Gwen Healey Akearok.
  • Minister of Environment and Minister of Culture and Heritage, the Honourable Brian Koonoo.
  • Minister responsible for the Nunavut Housing Corporation, the Honourable Cecile Nelvana Lyall.
  • Minister of Community Services, the Honourable Craig Simailak.
  • Minister of Human Resources, the Honourable Annie Tattuinee.

“I am proud to be part of this strong group of leaders, who are called to lead from all regions of Nunavut and a wide range of backgrounds. I am excited to move Nunavut forward beside these four women and four men, who are ready serve Nunavummiut,” said Premier Main.
