EDMONTON — Alberta’s government says it is preparing a proposal for an Indigenous co owned oil pipeline to the northwest coast of British Columbia, arguing the project would strengthen Canada’s energy independence, expand access to Asian markets and support long term economic growth.
In a media release, the province said it is developing a submission for what it describes as a world class pipeline, with Indigenous leadership and stewardship positioned as central elements. The government said Indigenous communities would help guide the project and share in long term benefits through co ownership.
The province said global demand for oil and gas is expected to remain strong for decades, particularly in Asia, and argued Canada is well positioned to supply reliable energy given Alberta’s large reserves.
