Region, Indigenous friendship centre agree to work together to improve life in Niagara –

Niagara Region councillors have voted to ratify and sign a declaration aimed at strengthening the municipality’s relationship with Fort Erie Native Friendship Centre.

The agreement, which was formalized at a recent regional council meeting, is something two provincial organizations — Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) and the Ontario Federation of Indigenous Friendship Centres (OFIFC) — are fostering.

The partnerships are essential in improving the quality of life for all communities, said Jennifer Dockstader, executive director of the Fort Erie centre.

“I am very excited about the work we are doing in the Niagara region, but also with AMO and OFIFC, to create strong relations in communities where friendship centres exist,” Dockstader said.
