Richard Pierre joins KPU as Indigenous Knowledge Keeper in Residence

Press Release

An Indigenous Knowledge Keeper in Residence is joining the Faculty of Arts at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU).

Richard Pierre, Sdemokeltel, will be sharing knowledge with students and the wider KPU community this spring term.

An Elder and Cultural Advisor at Len Pierre Consulting, Richard Pierre is from Katzie First Nation on his father’s side and Tsawout First Nation on his mother’s side. He enjoys sharing traditional Coast Salish family values, culture, beliefs, history, language, and contemporary issues.

Pierre has over 20 years of experience working in the education sector, including public K to 12, university, and professional training programs.

“I am passionate about making reconciliation a reality in this country and look forward to helping the next generation transition into ‘walking together’ like we should have been doing all along,” says Pierre.

Also joining KPU this term to share her expertise and experiences is Selina Boan in the role of Indigenous Writer in Residence.

A third residency celebrating and amplifying the voices of Indigenous Peoples belongs to Napatsi Folger, who began her role as Indigenous Artist and Writer in Residence last fall in the Faculty of Arts.
