A Grade 12 student from Winnipeg, Manitoba, will be honouring her culture and her late great-grandmother during this year’s Rock Your Mocs week.
Rock Your Mocs is an annual event that encourages people to wear their moccasins in school and at work and to share and upload their photos to social media.
The event falls on Nov. 15 every year, but has turned into a weekly tradition that starts on Nov. 12 and finishes on Nov. 16.
Moccasins are the traditional footwear of Indigenous peoples in North America.
For 17-year-old Zailey Cameron, wearing and posting about her mocs allows her to stay connected with her great-grandma Marie Thomas, who died in October.
