Roots in Reconciliation: McMaster reflects on 10-year anniversary of TRC’s Call to Action – Faculty of Health Sciences – McMaster University

December 10, 2025

A two-day event brought together the McMaster University community for reflection and conversation to mark the 10-year anniversary since the release of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s (TRC) report.

Titled Roots in Reconciliation, the event saw Indigenous speakers and subject matter experts provide insight into the TRC report and its 94 Calls to Action. The gathering, organized by the Indigenous Health Learning Lodge (IHLL), was held at the David Braley Health Sciences Centre on Dec. 8-9.

“The 10th anniversary of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action marks a decade of both progress and persistent gaps in Canada’s journey toward justice. For Indigenous peoples, this milestone is a reminder of the ongoing impacts of colonialism and the need for meaningful, sustained change. It also reaffirms that institutions—across health, education, government, and beyond—must remain accountable and committed to implementing the Calls to Action not as a completed checklist, but as a continuous, evolving responsibility rooted in respect, partnership, and reconciliation,” says Patricia Farrugia, associate dean of Indigenous Health.
