The justice system can be intimidating. With our new office, we aim to create a welcoming environment where our relatives feel seen, heard, and empowered to navigate the system with dignity.” – Grand Chief Jerry Daniels
ANISHINAABE AND DAKOTE TERRITORY, MB – The Southern Chiefs’ Organization (SCO) is pleased to announce the opening of a new office in Dauphin, Manitoba, within Treaty Two Territory.
This new location will provide critical support and guidance to citizens from SCO’s member Nations who have come into contact with the justice system.
“Opening this office in Dauphin is part of SCO’s ongoing mission to improve access to justice and healing services in our Nations,” shared Grand Chief Jerry Daniels. “The justice system can be intimidating. With our new office, we aim to create a welcoming environment where our relatives feel seen, heard, and empowered to navigate the system with dignity.”
The Dauphin office is staffed by a team of justice professionals, including a Gladue Report Writer, to ensure a person’s unique background and experiences are considered in legal proceedings.
Community Justice Workers are also on hand to offer restorative justice supports tailored to the needs of SCO’s member Nations. Additionally, First Nation Court Workers are available to guide members through the various stages of legal processes.
“I am proud to see these essential services come closer to our Nation,” said Chief Wayne Desjarlais of Ebb and Flow First Nation. “We know justice services centred on our traditional ways can provide more comfort and better guidance to our members. I acknowledge SCO for making sure these supports are available for those in need.”
The office is designed to be flexible, with staff available by appointment to accommodate their court and community commitments.
“Healing and justice are deeply personal journeys,” concluded Grand Chief Daniels. “In having a dedicated presence in Dauphin, SCO hopes to ease this process for our citizens.”
SCO’s new Dauphin office is located at #D016 – 1450 Main Street.
