Search for Kinngait hunter suspended, Niviaqsi Alariaq

On September 28, 2024, the Kinngait RCMP suspended their search for Niviaqsi Alariaq. He was last seen on September 9, 2024 while out of the community hunting. He was reported missing on September 10, 2024.

After an extensive search by multiples agencies, failed to locate the Mr. Alariaq, the RCMP suspended the search. The investigation remains open as a missing person case.

“The Kinngait RCMP thank all those who were involved for their assistance, including local search and rescue volunteers, the Government Nunavut’s Emergency Management, the Canadian Coast Guard and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre. Our thoughts are with the family and Kinngait community who have pledged significant resources into the search for Niviaqsi”, said Cst. Terri-Lynn Smith (Acting Detachment Commander)
