Sober group home project in works for Native Council clients in Charlottetown – Saltwire

The new home would offer a sober, safe place for people to stay when they get out of jail, detox or some other difficult situation.

This is part of the housing first approach to social issues such as homelessness, Native Council Chief Lisa Cooper says.

Chief Cooper, along with Brad Cooper, a policy analyst with the Native Council, recently told Charlottetown city council about the work their organization is doing to help keep Indigenous residents off the street and free of addiction.

“There is a bigger issue of social determinants of health. We know poverty is one, and we know being jobless is another one – low education rate, homelessness,” Lisa said during the Charlottetown council meeting.
