Press Release
The Speaking Our Truth Competition Pow Wow, originally scheduled for September 2025, has been postponed until next year to allow for essential upgrades to the Arbor grounds.
This would have been the fourth year of the competition, and we were excited to welcome dancers and drummers back to our community. But after years of use and weathering, the grass surface is due for a full rebuild—including new drainage, irrigation, and resurfacing. We’ve been advised that the restoration will take months to complete, which meant choosing between our June Traditional Pow Wow and our September Competition Pow Wow for a one-year pause.
After careful consideration, WLFN Chief and Council have decided to proceed with the Father’s Day Traditional Pow Wow in June 2025, and postpone the Competition Pow Wow until 2026.
“It’s never easy to press pause on an event that means so much to our people,” said Chief Willie Sellars. “But this is about honouring the spirit of our gatherings by taking care of the land we gather on. Since we’re only having one pow wow this year, we’ll be pulling out all the stops for the Father’s Day Traditional Pow Wow. We hope to see you then!”
We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we invest in the future of our pow wows and all who come to share in them.
