Press Release
September 24, 2024
Surrey, BC – On Métis Nation – Saskatchewan’s (MN-S) decision to withdraw from the Métis National Council (MNC), Métis Nation British Columbia’s Board of Directors has a duty to articulate our position on the withdrawal of MN-S, and our own role with the MNC. We do not take this matter lightly and understand that our decision will not only impact Métis people in British Columbia, but all Métis across the homeland. After careful deliberation and discussion, the Board of Directors has decided to seek the counsel of our Chartered Communities before deciding our way forward. We will not be swayed by outside influences or be forced to act hastily. Guided by the strength of our ancestors, with our children in our hearts, and consideration for the generations to come, our focus is on making a decision that is in the best interest of our Citizens. Our People need a say on the way forward for our Métis government in British Columbia.
On behalf of the Board of Directors,
Walter Mineault
President, Métis Nation British Columbia
