Press Release
May 9, 2025
Premier Ranj Pillai has issued the following statement:
“On behalf of the Government of Yukon, I offer my sincere congratulations to Chief Dylan Loblaw on his re-election as Chief of Ross River Dena Council in April 2025 .
“This re-election is a strong vote of confidence in Chief Loblaw’s leadership and vision for his community. Over the years, Chief Loblaw has demonstrated a clear commitment to advancing the priorities of Ross River Dena Citizens, working tirelessly to create opportunities and deliver results.
“The Government of Yukon deeply values our government-to-government relationship with Ross River Dena Council. I look forward to continuing to work closely with Chief Loblaw and the Council as we pursue shared goals rooted in respect, collaboration and reconciliation.
“In December 2024, I was honoured to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Chief Loblaw and federal Environment and Climate Change Minister Steven Guilbeault to explore the potential for a protected area in the Ross River region. This agreement marked a significant step forward in recognizing and supporting Indigenous leadership in environmental stewardship and land protection.
“Chief Loblaw has also been instrumental in leading practical, community-driven initiatives. For example, through a partnership with the Yukon Housing Corporation, Ross River Dena Council helped facilitate the installation of a three-unit trailer to be used as staff housing. This critical infrastructure enabled the hiring of essential personnel and increased capacity to respond to the community’s ongoing state of emergency.
“Chief Loblaw’s leadership – grounded in dedication, action and a deep connection to the land and people – is making a concrete difference. I remain committed to working with him and the returning and new Council members to further strengthen our partnership and support meaningful improvements that benefit all Citizens and the community of Ross River.”
