Strong Hands Stop Violence Poetry Book, vol. 9

Press Release

Are you a poet, storyteller, or spoken word artist? We invite you to submit your work for ONWA Poetry Book. Let’s uplift Indigenous voices and promote healing through art. 🧡

Would you like to have your poem(s) published in ONWA’s Strong Hands Stop Violence Poetry Book, volume 9?

Every year, the Ontario Native Women’s Association (ONWA) hosts a Poetry Nights across Ontario to raise awareness of Violence Against Women in support of the United Nations International Day of Elimination of Violence Against Women #orangetheworld campaign. This day provides an opportunity to create a space where Indigenous women can gather and celebrate strength and resiliency.

Art as Healing Trauma is a strong foundation of the work ONWA does, addressing violence from perspectives rooted in cultural teachings. ONWA is committed to supporting communities and hope to those on their healing journey, and invites all poets, storytellers, writers and spoken word artists to help raise awareness of the violence against Indigenous women and girls by participating in events across Ontario and contributing to the Poetry Books. Province wide submissions are considered for ONWA’s annual publication Strong Hands Stop Violence, which highlights poetry written by Indigenous women.

Poems submitted this year (2024) will be published in a Poetry Book released at next year’s Poetry Night (November 25, 2025). Help us continue to raise awareness of violence against women by submitting your work(s).

Please enter your submission below. If you would like to submit multiple poems, you can fill in this form multiple times to do so. If you have questions, please contact: Matthew Richer at evaiwcs@onwa.ca

Please be advised that the SUBMISSION DEADLINE is 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on December 31, 2024.
