Ten biographies of women entrepreneurs from Canada and around the world whose trailblazing in various fields – from construction to media to aviation – has changed the face of business

September 16, 2013, Toronto – This collection of biographies profiles ten creative business leaders who have proven that entrepreneurial women can not only succeed in business, they can also bring about positive change.

Against all odds, African-American Madam C.J. Walker, born in 1867, became a self-made millionaire who promoted civil rights and opposed racism. Designer Dorothy Shaver, The Body Shop founder Dame Anita Roddick, and high-finance expert Naina Lal Kidwai built businesses based on integrity, responsibility, and respect.

Among the growing number of young female entrepreneurs — now in their 30s and 40s — are Canadians Nicole Robertson, president of a communications company that focuses on Aboriginal media based outside of Calgary, Kelsey Ramsden, founder of a BC construction company, and Jodi Glover, CEO of an Ontario water-tech company. Rounding out the biographies are Americans Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook and Sue Chen, founder of an innovative mobility products company, as well as African businesswoman Susan Mashibe, owner of the aviation company TanJet in Tanzania.

Author Jill Bryant had several entrepreneurial ventures as a child, including selling lemonade and handmade greeting cards, which made her the ideal author for this latest book in Second Story Press’ Women’s Hall of Fame Series.

Jill Bryant is always on the look-out for trailblazing women’s stories. She is the author of two other books in the Women’s Hall of Fame Series: Dazzling Women Designers and Amazing Women Athletes. A writer and freelance editor, Jill lives in Kingston Ontario.
