Thousands of ‘in-demand’ workers to be trained through Hamilton-area unions – The Spec

The province announced Tuesday more than $3.6 million in funding for training and capital projects among skilled-trades unions in Hamilton.

Thousands of Hamilton-area electricians, iron workers and millwrights are set to be trained through new provincial funding announced on Tuesday.

The investment of more than $3.6 million will train up to 3,800 “in-demand” skilled-trades workers, including apprentices, journeypersons and job seekers, the province said in a July 2 release.

Workers, said Brad Sutton of the Millwright Local 1916, “are more employable the more that they’re trained.”
