The City of Oshawa is sharing how you can mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in the city.
September 30 is the national holiday meant to acknowledge and the painful legacy and harms caused by residential schools. Another goal is to honour the children who die, the survivors, their families and their communities.
Oshawa is located on the traditional and treaty territory of the Mississaugas and Chippewa Anishinaabeg and is covered by the Williams Treaties. The city says they are the presently home to the largest number of Indigenous peoples in Durham Region and they are honoured to proclaim September 30 as National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day in Oshawa.
The city is encouraging residents to learn more about Indigenous communities and support healing through several initiatives.
