Train will remain on track – Cochrane Times-Post

On March 8 the Minister of Northern Development and Mines, Tim Hudak announced that the Northlander train will continue to run while the board considers options for improving passenger train service and all other ONTC operation.

The board is expected to report back to the Minister by September 2000.

“This exercise has one goal, and that’s overall service improvement, all options are on the table concerning how we achieve that objective,” said Hudak.

Mayor, Donald Genier was very pleased when the announcement was made and said, “The Minister is sensitive to services and this shows that he made a genuine effort to meet some of our concerns.” Genier felt that his recent visit and the pulse of the community indicated that the passenger service was a concern to the community.
