As the countdown to the official rollout of U.S. President Donald Trump’s sweeping new tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico shifts from days to hours, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau may get the chance to speak directly to his American counterpart later today.

“In remarks to reporters on Sunday night, Trump said he would hold separate calls on Monday morning with (Trudeau), as well as with the Mexican leadership,” Bloomberg reported last night. “’I don’t expect anything very dramatic,’ Trump said of the planned calls. ‘We put tariffs on. They owe us a lot of money, and I’m sure they’re going to pay.’”
