uOttawa Faculty of Medicine names Elder Simon Brascoupé Special Advisor to the Dean on Indigenous Health – Education News Canada

In a significant milestone on its path toward reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, the University of Ottawa announced today the nomination of Elder Simon Brascoupé, a member of the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg First Nation whose career has been defined by a dedication to advancing Indigenous health through educational leadership, policy advocacy and community engagement, as Special Advisor to the Dean on Indigenous Health at the Faculty of Medicine.

In this newly established position, the Special Advisor will advise the Dean on Indigenous health, wellness, sovereignty, and Indigenous-defined priorities. He will contribute to shape how the next generation of Indigenous and non-Indigenous health professionals and scientists will be educated and help create the conditions for meaningfully engagement with local Indigenous communities.
