Press Release
May 1, 2024 – Saskatoon, SK – On Friday, April 19, the Saskatoon Police Service Major Crime Section and Public Safety Unit issued a media release indicating new evidence in the 2020 disappearance of then 22-year-old Mackenzie Lee Trottier, has led them to begin a search of the Saskatoon landfill that will commence this week, May 1, and last for a total 33 days.
Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN–S) Vice President Michelle LeClair has released the following statement in support of the Trottier family:
“Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN–S) would like to offer Mackenzie’s family, her father, MN–S citizen Paul Trottier, his wife Gina, and all those affected by the case, our sincere thoughts and prayers during this time. As the government of the Métis within Saskatchewan, MN–S is committed to working with the affected families who are searching for answers during a time of grief.
While a search of the landfill is deeply disturbing, MN–S is encouraged that the case has not been forgotten, as is often the situation with our missing and murdered Indigenous peoples.
MN–S calls for justice for Mackenzie and her family and for authorities to uncover the truth about what happened that December day more than three years ago. We hope the investigation leads to an arrest and conviction of those responsible, and the family be provided some sense of relief so they may finally begin the process of healing.
Our thoughts are with Mackenzie’s family. We want them to know their MN–S government is with you in grief and support.”
