Wednesday’s letters: Valley Line LRT shelters a costly failure – Edmonton Journal

Nov 20, 2024

Valley Line LRT stations had heated passenger booths equipped with sliding doors, which made them a very sufficient heated facility for passengers waiting for their trains. From the onset, the sliding doors did not work properly and were left tilted open thus triggering warning alarms. After many weeks and months, all the sliding doors have been removed. Most of the booths were usually occupied by homeless people so it was no good for passengers, anyways.

However, there must have been some dollars spent on the installation of the modern-looking booths which displayed an excellent look and came in handy to avoid chilling temperatures while waiting for LRT. Winter is almost upon us; the booths are empty and deserted because they are so open that standing outside or inside does not make any difference. If and when the doors are installed back, one is sure they will mostly yet again be used by homeless people rather than fare-paying passengers.
