WIFN athletes competing at North American Indigenous Games – Chatham-Kent Sports Network

A Walpole Island contingent is among thousands of athletes taking part in the North American Indigenous Games in Nova Scotia.

The opening ceremonies were held in Halifax last night, kicking off six days of competition at 21 venues.

The games bring together close to 5,000 athletes, coaches, and mission staff from 750 first nations across North America. The seven Walpole Island First Nation athletes include Draedyn Wrightman, playing softball, and box lacrosse players Reese Sands, Mason Jacobs, Kiigs Shognosh, Ari Hopkins, Brayden Sands, and Brie Blackbird.

Other competitions this week include canoe/kayak, archery, rifle shooting, golf, baseball, and basketball, among others.
