Youth Safe Drinking Water Summit
Aug 28 – 29, 2023
About the Event Securing Safe Water For All First Nations
You are invited to apply to participate in the AFN 2023 Youth Safe Drinking Water Summit. The Summit will focus on building and developing a Youth Vision for the Future of First Nations Water through national youth engagement.
As a youth representative of your First Nation, this is an opportunity to develop a vision for the future of First Nations drinking water. Presentations and discussions will be centered around First Nations’ rights
to water, responsibilities, governance, institutions, and youth-led water initiatives and opportunities. During the summit, First Nations youth attendees will work collaboratively to develop a vision statement outlining youth perspectives on the future of First Nations water.
The youth participants will engage in discussions related to the repeal and replacement of the proposed legislation for Safe Drinking Water for First Nations and the ongoing work of the Joint Technical Working Group. There will be breakout group sessions and plenary discussions regarding various water-related topics including First Nations’ rights and responsibilities to water, First Nations water governance, youth-led water initiatives, and emerging and on-going local and regional water priorities and issues.
Additionally, youth participants will contribute to developing a Youth Vision for the Future of First Nations Drinking Water, which will be a critical guiding document for AFN water activities and a powerful advocacy tool.
