Yukon First Nation unhappy with clean-up of abandoned mine – APTN News

A First Nation in the Yukon is taking issue with how a remediation company is managing an abandoned gold and silver mine.

And it has asked the Yukon Water Board to intervene.

Little Salmon Carmacks First Nation made an application to the board about the work being done by Ensero Solutions and JDS Energy & Mining at the former Nansen Mine site, 60 kms west of Carmacks.

The nation claims there are more than “two dozen contaminants of concern” at and around the site, and the remediation project has consistently breached its water licence.

The project included building a water treatment plant that met the standards of that licence before work started at the site.
