The Government of Yukon celebrated the remarkable Yukoners who received the King Charles III Coronation Medal at a ceremony held over the weekend.
Premier Pillai presented the medals to 53 deserving Yukoners from across the territory.
The Coronation Medal is a national honour awarded to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, service and dedication to their communities.
This weekend, I had the honour of recognizing outstanding Yukoners whose dedication and contributions have made a lasting impact on our territory. Their efforts uplift communities and help make the Yukon one of the best places to live, work and play. Thank you for all you’ve done.

Jason Adams: owner of Yukon Yamaha and President of the Whitehorse Oldtimers Hockey League, Jason has played a vital role in promoting adult recreational hockey, growing community involvement and fostering active lifestyles, making a lasting impact on Whitehorse’s sports culture.
Kiara Adams: in recognition of her exceptional service and leadership, Kiara has dedicated 21 years to the Whitehorse Fire Department, becoming the first female permanent firefighter in 2012.
Bernie Adilman: a notable figure in the Yukon hockey community, Bernie is recognized for his contributions to the sport. He has been the President of the Old Timers Hockey League for over 15 years. He has volunteered as a referee in four leagues for over 30 years.
Math’ieya Alatini: a dynamic leader of Southern Tutchone, Tlingit, Russian and Welsh descent, Math’ieya is renowned for her integrity and results-driven approach. Former Chief of Kluane First Nation, she now leads GSD Strategies, fostering partnerships and driving impactful initiatives for Indigenous and northern communities.
Mike Albertini: with 25 years of service, Platoon Chief Albertini’s extensive knowledge and expertise have been invaluable. In 2011, Mike embraced a challenging new role as Association Shop Steward, a position he held with dedication and distinction for a decade.
Luann Baker Johnson: in recognition of exceptional creativity and entrepreneurial spirit, Luann, founder of Lumel Studios, has made a lasting impact on the arts community. Their dedication to the craft of glassblowing has enriched the cultural landscape and inspired countless artists.
Daryl Berube: Daryl exemplifies ethics and integrity, leading the Radio Technology Workshop and supporting RCMP OCC and officers. His unwavering dedication, even during illness, injury or personal time, ensures reliable communications and exemplary service to the Yukon.
Joe Binger: in recognition of outstanding dedication and service, Joe, an instructor in the Yukon College’s Enhanced Language Training program, has made a significant impact by helping newcomers to the Yukon build language skills, fostering integration and success in the community.
Dale Bort: in recognition of his outstanding service and dedication, Dale has made a significant impact on the youth of the community through his leadership and commitment to the Scouting movement, inspiring future generations and fostering growth and development in all.
Nakhela Bunbury: in recognition of Nakhela, a dedicated matriarch and passionate advocate for the preservation of the Southern Tutchone language and culture. A true language warrior, Nakhela’s contributions as a teacher and cultural keeper inspire us all to cherish and protect our heritage for future generations.
Ione Christensen: in recognition of her groundbreaking achievements and exceptional leadership, Ione has been a trailblazer. As the first woman appointed to numerous prestigious positions, including Justice of the Peace, Judge of the Juvenile Court, Mayor of Whitehorse and Commissioner of Yukon, her contributions have shaped the region’s legal and political landscape.
Patricia Cunning: in recognition of her exceptional leadership and dedication, Patricia, Executive Director of the MacBride Museum, has played a key role in preserving and promoting the Yukon’s history, fostering community engagement and enriching the cultural landscape of the territory.
Robert (Bob) Dickson: in recognition of Robert, Kwänathi inlį (Chief) of Kluane First Nation, for his exceptional leadership, dedication to his people and significant contributions to the cultural and social wellbeing of his community. His leadership has left a lasting legacy.
Karen DuBois: in recognition of outstanding leadership and dedication, Karen, Executive Director of the Klondike Institute of Art and Culture, has played a pivotal role in promoting arts and culture in the Yukon, fostering creativity and enriching the local community.
Brian Fedoriak: over his 28-year career, Platoon Chief Fedoriak has been a valuable member of the Whitehorse Fire Department, serving as both Association President and Vice President. He also mentored and motivated younger members interested in the “Firefit” challenge.
Justin Ferbey: has made extensive contributions to his community through public service, First Nations governance and economic development.
Brian Fidler: in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the arts, Brian has enriched the community through his creativity, performances and dedication to local theatre, inspiring countless individuals and fostering cultural growth in the Yukon.
Karen Forward: in recognition of her exemplary leadership and commitment, Karen, President of the Yukon Hospital Foundation, has played a pivotal role in advancing healthcare initiatives, securing vital resources and supporting the wellbeing of Yukoners across the territory.
Jessica Frotten: in recognition of her remarkable achievements and contributions to Paralympic sport, Jessica, a Yukon-born Paralympian, is honoured for her exceptional career as a wheelchair racer.
Dustin Grant: Sergeant Grant served as Acting OIC of Whitehorse Detachment, improving operations while fulfilling his role as Operations Support NCO. Previously, as Acting Detachment Commander in Dawson, he earned respect from colleagues, local leaders and the community.
Gregory Holmberg: Sergeant Holmberg, with nearly 20 years in the RCMP and in the Yukon since 2016, is a compassionate leader who excels in any task. Known for de-escalation, motivating others and hands-on leadership, he is highly respected by peers, subordinates and supervisors.
Colleen James: in recognition of Colleen, Community Coordinator and Cultural Advisor for Champagne and Aishihik First Nations, whose dedication to preserving cultural heritage and fostering community growth has left an indelible mark on the lives she serves.
Katherine (Kari) Johnston: for exceptional dedication to social impact and community resilience in the Yukon. As CEO of Sha Shaw Corporation and founder of Rafter 14 Strategies, Kari’s leadership in innovative programs and the Yukon COVID-19 response has profoundly enriched the territory.
Loralee Johnstone: in recognition of Loralee’s commitment to responsible and sustainable mining in the Yukon.
Stacey Jones: in recognition of her unwavering commitment and leadership, Stacey, Executive Director of Hospice Yukon, has played a pivotal role in providing compassionate end-of-life care and support to families, enhancing the wellbeing of the Yukon community.
Heather Jones: in recognition of her outstanding service and leadership, Heather, Chief Coroner, has demonstrated unwavering dedication to public health and safety, ensuring thorough investigations and compassionate support for families during times of loss across the territory.
Henry Klassen: in recognition of Henry’s commitment to the music community in the Yukon. With over 30 years of music teaching, Henry founded the Rotary Music Festival, the Whitehorse Choral Society and the Whitehorse Big Band.
Stacy Lewis: in recognition of exceptional leadership and commitment, Stacy, Board President of Yukon Sport, has played a pivotal role in advancing sports and recreation in the Yukon. Their dedication to fostering growth, inclusion and excellence has made a lasting impact on the community.
Scott MacFarlane: Captain MacFarlane has shown unwavering commitment to financial responsibility and the Association as longstanding Treasurer. He was also instrumental in establishing the Ice Rescue Team and the Swift Water Rescue Team.
Jeremy McCulloch: in recognition of Jeremy, coach and co-owner of Northern Strength Academy, for his dedication to fostering physical fitness, personal growth and community empowerment. His leadership and commitment to developing strength and resilience in others are inspiring.
Kevin McGinty: for unwavering dedication to supporting sports and youth in the community through selfless volunteerism. Kevin’s contributions have fostered growth, teamwork and opportunities, leaving a lasting positive impact on future generations.
Kate Mechan: in recognition of Kate’s work with Safe at Home. Kate has committed to serve anyone who is homeless or at risk of homelessness in the Yukon. Through Safe at Home, she helps to prioritize individuals with complex challenges and barriers to housing.
Serge Michaud: in recognition of outstanding leadership and dedication, Serge, Chief Executive Officer of Special Olympics Yukon, has significantly advanced the organization’s mission. Their tireless efforts have empowered athletes, fostering inclusion and creating lasting impact in the Yukon community.
Arthur Mitchell: in recognition of his dedicated service to the people of the Yukon, Arthur served with distinction as a member of the Legislative Assembly and as Leader of the Official Opposition from 2006 to 2011. His leadership and commitment to the Yukon have left a lasting impact.
Verna Nukon: in recognition of Verna, Deputy Chief of the Ross River Dena Council, for her unwavering leadership, dedication to community development and tireless advocacy for the wellbeing of her people. Her contributions have had a lasting impact on the community and beyond.
Jorgen Ponsioen: Captain Ponsioen has dedicated 25 years of continuous service to the Whitehorse community through his work with the fire department. He is an active member of both the auto extrication team and the fire prevention and education group.
Paul Scholz: in recognition of outstanding service and dedication, Paul, 2nd Vice President of the Whitehorse Legion, has demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment.
Dennis Shorty: in recognition of his exceptional contributions to Kaska culture, Dennis is celebrated as a musician, master carver, artist and craftsman. As a knowledge keeper and storyteller, he has preserved and shared Kaska heritage for future generations.
Steve Smith: a former Chief of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nation, Steve is committed to his community, his language and providing equal opportunities for First Nations peoples.
Joe Sparling: in recognition of his leadership and dedication, Joseph, President of Air North, Yukon’s Airline, has significantly contributed to the growth and success of the airline, fostering economic development, community connections and regional pride throughout the Yukon.
Diane Strand: in recognition of Diane’s commitment to community and her practice of assisting those with anxiety and trauma related conditions through holistic practices.
Dana Sundby: in recognition of their dedication to community and bringing the issue of electoral reform to the fore front.
Darryl Tait: in recognition of Darryl’s resilience and community spirit. Darryl will be representing the Yukon in 2026 in handcycling. He became the first person with a spinal cord injury (T4 paraplegia) to backflip a wheelchair and has found new ways explore the remote outdoors in the Yukon.
Wendy Tayler: in recognition of Wendy, President of Alkan Air, for her exceptional leadership and dedication to aviation in the Yukon. Her commitment to safety, community engagement and the growth of the company has significantly contributed to the region’s development.
Juliana Thorpe: in recognition of outstanding leadership and dedication, Julie, Director of Ride for Dad Yukon, has played a key role in organizing and leading efforts to raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer research, making a significant impact in the community.
Mike Thorpe: in recognition of exceptional leadership and dedication, Mike, Co-Chair of Ride for Dad Yukon, has played a pivotal role in organizing and leading fundraising efforts to support prostate cancer research, demonstrating unwavering commitment to the cause and community.
Sid van der Meer: in recognition of the Yukon’s most dedicated collector of historic artifacts, preserving the rich legacy of the Klondike Gold Rush and the highway’s construction. Through tireless efforts, discarded relics were transformed into treasures, safeguarding the Yukon’s vibrant heritage.
Ted Wagner: in recognition of his remarkable leadership and dedication. Ted’s visionary leadership extended beyond the local congregation, serving 27 years on the Alaska-Yukon District Board, eight years as Executive Presbyter for Canada and 12 years on the UPCI Executive Board.
David Wallace: throughout his 34-year career, Sergeant Wallace has a unique ability to connect; whether it be having tea with First Nations Elders, chatting with gold miners in the Klondike or sharing a fire with hunters, Wallace is the Yukon Mountie everyone seems to know and like.
Donald White: in recognition of exceptional leadership and dedication, Don, Board Director of Athletics Yukon, has played a pivotal role in advancing athletics in the region. Their commitment to fostering sports development and supporting local athletes has made a lasting impact.
Jason Wolsky: with 24 years of service, Wolsky continues to lead the operational division of the Whitehorse Fire Department as Deputy Fire Chief. He is passionate about integrating drones into fire service operations and is a specialist in technical rope and confined space rescue.
Christine (Tina) Woodland: committed to supporting the local community, Tina is a volunteer with the Yukon Food Bank, supports local arts, the Hospital Foundation and the Yukon Quest.
Mark Wykes: owner of Wykes Independent Grocery, Mark is committed to his community’s wellbeing and his support for local farmers demonstrates his dedication to a sustainable and connected community.
