6th Northeast B.C. Natural Gas Summit

Presented by ALM’s Insight Information, this conference focuses on the road ahead for LNG in B.C., how to address challenges associated with its development, the cumulative effects on the Aboriginal communities, and the future for North American natural gas.

Toronto – August 21, 2014 – the 6th Northeast B.C. Natural Gas Summit set for September 18-19 at The Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue, Vancouver. B.C. will provide participants with an overview of LNG global competition in relation to the BC sector as well as describe an approach which involves engagement, respect and meaningful dialogue to address environmental, human and cultural concerns identified by First Nations and communities.

Our keynote speakers and keynote panelists include:

The Honourable John Rustad, Minister of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation, BC; Mr. Andy Calitz, CEO for LNG Canada; Gregory Kist, President Pacific NorthWest LNG Ltd.; Steve Carr, Deputy Minister for the BC Ministry of Natural Gas  Development; and Rick Gateman, President Coastal GasLink.

This event will also count with the presence of Co-Chairs Susannah Pierce, External Affairs Director LNG Canada, and Karen Ogen, Chief of the Wet’suwet’en First Nation.

The conference will have remarkable participations of Mayor Gwen Johansson of District of Hudson’s Hope; Sean Crockett, VP of Business Development at Civeo; Ron Poole, CAO for the District of Kitimat; and Chief Derek Orr, Executive Officer for the McLeod Lake Indian Band who will jointly discuss LNG impacts on the communities, as well as existing infrastructure gaps and how to best address them.

Mayor and Chief Gray Reece for Lax Kw’alaams will provide perspectives on sharing natural resource wealth while protecting First Nations’ interests and addressing environmental issues.

John Alan Jack, Member of Counsel for Huu-ay-aht First Nations and Nigel Kuzemko, CEO of Steelhead LNGwill explain the Maa Nulth Final Agreement and its significance to the Huu-ay-aht’s environment, social and economic sustainability principles, and other factors.

Attendees who manage finances or construction within the industry will be interested in hearing new approaches from Manley McLachlan, President of the BC Construction Association, and Laurie Rancourt, President and CEO of the Northern Lights College who will present on managing construction costs through effective skills, employment and training programs.

For those interested in Provincial regulations, royalties, and other legalities involved with LNG, Francesca Wheler, Executive Director for the Policy and Royalty Branch of the Ministry of Natural Gas Development; Ken Paulson, COO for the BC Oil & Gas Commission, and Trish Balcaen, Executive Project Director and Oil & Gas Sector Lead for the BC Environmental Assessment Office will explain the best methods for synchronizing government regulatory and royalty processes for natural gas and LNG development in BC.

To learn the building blocks of strong working relationships with and between First Nations, Industry, and Province, Laurel Nash, Chief Negotiator for LNG and Strategic Initiatives at the Ministry of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation will speak on creating an environmental legacy of collaboration and how to protect key environmental priorities.
