GATINEAU, QUE.—Put simply, Justin Trudeau stood in a posh hotel ballroom on traditional Algonquin territory Tuesday and rolled out the most comprehensive and ambitious First Nations agenda ever proposed by a federal government.
But that might not even have been the biggest news.
That might have been the reaction of Assembly of First Nations leaders who, having listened to what one later called “a Christmas wish list,’’ and enduring years of watching government promises broken, ignored or left to melt away, are willing to invest such trust in the new Liberal prime minister who came promising everything.
