NEB releases preliminary timeline for Energy East

The National Energy Board (NEB) has released a preliminary timeline for the Energy East hearing process.
This timeframe reflects an extended time limit of 21 months for the process, as directed by the Minister of Natural Resources. National Energy Board reviews are typically conducted within a 15-month time limit.
The following table outlines the expected steps and timing that the NEB plans on following to consider the amended Energy East project application. This information is subject to change. The NEB will provide further details as they become available.

The NEB expects to gather input from the hearing participants on what process elements they would like to see included in the review. The NEB will use this feedback to help design a process that is thorough, rigorous and transparent.
Quick Facts
- Energy East is a 4,500-kilometre pipeline proposed to carry 1.1-million barrels of crude oil per day from Alberta and Saskatchewan to refineries in Eastern Canada and a marine terminal in New Brunswick.
- In December 2015, Energy East Pipeline Ltd. filed project amendments to remove the Cacouna marine and tank terminal, change the pipeline route and facility locations in Quebec, modify the tank storage facility in New Brunswick, and to address the agreement reached with three local distribution companies in Eastern Canada.
- The NEB has received more than 2,300 applications to participate in the Energy East hearing process.
