Activists calling for provincial holiday to honour Indigenous people – 1310 News

TORONTO – Activists are holding a rally at Queen’s Park to call on the provincial government to create a new statutory holiday to honour Indigenous peoples.

The ‘Circle of Reconciliation Pow Wow’ is being held at 12 p.m. Thursday.

They’ll be joined by members of OPSEU, to ask the government to set June 21st as the new holiday, something that is also being pushed in a private members bill by NDP MPP Michael Mantha.

The bill, titled the “Indigenous Day Act – A Path to Truth and Reconciliation,” is scheduled to be tabled Thursday.
