I am writing to set the record straight on the recent Supreme Court decision on records from the Independent Assessment Process. Ry Moran, of the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR), recently alleged the destruction of IAP documents is “happening right now.” Nothing could be farther from the truth.

The documents addressed by the Supreme Court ruling (application forms, recordings and transcripts of hearings, and decisions) are being kept safe. Claimants have 15 years to decide whether they wish to share them.

The Court’s decision upheld confidentiality promises made to claimants and confirmed that they control their IAP records. It allows claimants to keep them confidential.
