Skills Ontario Summer Camps develop skills and career awareness for youth

Press Release

Students will explore skilled trade and tech careers at 26 camps across Ontario

ONTARIO (June 17, 2019) – This summer, nearly 400 students across the province will begin exploring future career options in the skilled trades and technologies at Skills Ontario Summer Camps. These week-long day camps offer skilled trades and technologies workshops, industry tours, and mentorship. With 26 camps across Ontario, each camp hosts a range of activities and learning opportunities, allowing for unique sets of experiences across the province.

Workshops at the camps can include construction, heavy equipment service, GIS and horticulture, app design, culinary arts, aviation, and more! Each camp also features games and entrepreneurship activities.

“Skills Ontario Summer Camps aim to provide awareness of skilled trade and technology careers,” says Kayla Bezaire, Summer Camp Program Manager at Skills Ontario. “Through fun, hands-on activities, this program provides an opportunity for young people to explore viable career options, apprenticeship pathways, and relevant courses they can take in secondary school so that they can ultimately recognize how vital employability skills are to their future success.”

Skills Ontario Summer Camps are hosted in partnership with Magna International, Hydro One, the Government of Ontario, and many local colleges and other industry organizations, whose investment in these camps show their dedication to skill development for youth in Ontario.

Encouraging all youth, including young women and First Nations, Métis, and Inuit youth, to consider a career in the skilled trades and technologies is a key strategic mission of Skills Ontario. Once again this summer, Skills Ontario is pleased to offer All- Girls’ and All-Boys’ camps. Additionally, Skills Ontario is thrilled to host First Nations, Métis, and Inuit-focused camps in partnership with Marathon High School, Marathon (July 3 -5) and Kenjgewin Teg, M’Chigeeng First Nation (July 25 & 26), as well as Francophone camps at Collège Boréal in Sudbury (July 16 -19) and Timmins (August 12-16).
