The RCMP wants to give Indigenous youth have an opportunity to get an inside look at the life of a police officer.
The Indigenous Pre-Cadet Training Program (IPTP) offers Canadian Indigenous people from the ages of 19-29 hands-on experience in the RCMP’s training program.
Candidates selected for the summer program will attend three-weeks of training at Depot, the RCMP Training Academy in Regina, from June 1st-June19, 2020.
The training focuses on teaching collaborative problem-solving skills, law enforcement, public speaking, cultural diversity, and facilitating Safe Community Workshops in communities. There are also elements of physical fitness and drill to promote team work and provide students with long-term strategies to meet personal fitness goals.
Those interested in this program should be between 19-29 years of age and in good physical condition; of First Nation, Métis or Inuit descent; a Canadian citizen; be of good character and be able to pass an enhanced reliability security check. Interested individuals must also possess a Canadian high school diploma or equivalent.
