Celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day at WAG-Qaumajuq

Winnipeg, Manitoba, June 20, 2024: In celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Day, the Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG)-Qaumajuq is excited host and partner with local organizations for a full day of activities. On Friday, June 21, 2024, the community is welcome to attend programming on site at the Gallery as well as join us at the free morning event, Hey Cuzzin! at the Broadway Neighbourhood Centre, in partnership with Art City, Bear Clan Patrol, Blue Thunderbird Family Care Inc., Centre de Santé, Crisis & Trauma Resource Institute, Jessie Home Inc., Manitoba Moon Voices, Neecheewam Inc., Sākihiwē Festival, and Women’s Health Clinic.
The day’s program at the Gallery includes two drop-in tours — learn more about Truth and Reconciliation Through Art and Indigenous Storytelling Through Art at 2pm and 6pm. There will also be a live Drag Performance in the Murial Richardson Auditorium with an electrifying energy celebrating Indigenous culture and expression. The day will conclude with the third annual Grippin Sage event, a rooftop concert featuring live performances by DJ Corvo, The Kaptain, Boogey the Beat, and Zuki.
WAG-Qaumajuq will be open late (until 11pm) and ShopWAG will be open until 9pm on Friday, June 21. All programming at the Gallery is included with the cost of admission, admission is always free for Indigenous People. WAG-Qaumajuq is an accessible space. There are gender neutral washrooms on every floor of WAG-Qaumajuq. Quiet spaces are available if needed and armless chairs are available.

- The community is welcome to attend a full day of programming at WAG-Qaumajuq for National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21 from 11am-11pm.
- Everyone is welcome to join us at the free Hey Cuzzin! event at the Broadway Neighbourhood Centre (185 Young Street) from 8-11am featuring a free breakfast, pipe ceremony, community gathering, Pow Wow demonstration, live entertainment, prizes, and more!
- At the Gallery, visitors can learn more about truth and reconciliation and Indigenous culture through two tours, Truth and Reconciliation Through Art and Indigenous Storytelling.
- Beginning at 5pm, there will be a Drag Performance in the Muriel Richardson Auditorium at the Gallery featuring electrifying performances, all ages are welcome to attend.
- Join us from 7-11pm on the WAG Rooftop Sculpture Garden for the third annual Grippin Sage event featuring live music by DJ Corvo, The Kaptain, Boogey the Beat, and Zuki.
- WAG-Qaumajuq will be open late this Friday, June 21 (until 11pm). ShopWAG will also be open late, until 9pm.
- National Indigenous Peoples Day and National Indigenous History Month is a time to celebrate Indigenous nations, history, and people.
