Press Release
March 25, 2025
The Nunatsiavut Government today officially launched Adapt Nunatsiavut: An Inuit Approach to Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation in Nunatsiavut.
This strategy represents a collective effort that incorporates the voices, experiences, and knowledge of Labrador Inuit, and demonstrates a commitment to addressing the challenges of climate change with resilience and determination.
As part of the launch, taking place in Nain, a community workshop is being held to provide participants with an overview of how the contributions of Labrador Inuit, community members, Nunatsiavut Government staff, and partners have been integrated into the strategy. A community feast – open to the public – will be held in the evening, featuring local entertainment to honour the collaborative efforts of everyone involved in the development and launch of the strategy. As well, participants will have an opportunity on Wednesday to spend a day on the land, to connect with the environment and each other.
“Inuit have navigated the extremes of Northern environments since time immemorial, and adaptation has always been a way of life and being,” says Nunatsiavut President Johannes Lampe. “We have much to contribute to the conversation on climate change and we are eager to share our knowledge with the world. The launch of this strategy marks an important milestone in the journey towards climate change mitigation and adaptation in Nunatsiavut, showcasing the collective efforts and dedication of the Labrador Inuit and our partners.”
