OTTAWA, ON – Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) announces that Judy Anilniliak, TI Executive Director, has officially resigned from her position. Judy will be transitioning out of her role to take on a prestigious and impactful new opportunity. We are proud to share that she has been appointed as an Indigenous Justice of the Peace of the Ontario Court of Justice and has been assigned to Ottawa. This appointment is a significant recognition of her leadership, commitment to community, and dedication to justice.
During her tenure as Executive Director, Judy has been instrumental in steering Tungasuvvingat Inuit toward the successful implementation of its five-year strategic plan. Her leadership has consistently emphasized responsiveness to community needs, cultural integrity, and inclusivity. Guided by the principles of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Judy ensured that traditional knowledge informed decision-making and fostered meaningful collaboration across the organization.
“We are deeply grateful for Judy’s contributions and the lasting impact of her leadership” said Tamara Takpannie, President of the Board of Directors, Tungasuvvingat Inuit. “Her commitment to TI’s mission and to the well-being of the Inuit community has created a strong foundation for
continued growth and success. We wish her every success as she moves into this next important chapter of her career.”
Effective May 9, 2025, Chris Cousins has assumed the role of Acting Executive Director. Chris brings a deep understanding of TI’s values and operations, along with strong relationships within both the
community and our team. His thoughtful and steady leadership will help ensure continuity as TI navigates this transition.
TI will begin the process of selecting a permanent Executive Director shortly and will keep the public informed as things progress.
