Nunavut Environment Week

Press Release

June 2, 2025

The Department of Environment invites all Nunavummiut to take part in Environment Week from June 2-8, with challenges running until June 20!

In the spirit of Avatittinnik Kamatsiarniq, this week is about:

  • Respecting the land – Celebrate the land that provides for us by keeping it clean, healthy, and thriving.
  • Making mindful choices – Small daily actions – like turning off lights, recycling, or choosing reusable items – can make a big difference.
  • Learning and sharing – A chance to share knowledge, raise awareness and inspire others to work toward a more sustainable future.

Please visit the Department of Environment’s website or follow the Government of Nunavut on social media to learn more about the contests and local events. There are many prizes to be won!

This week is a time to reflect, reconnect with the land, honour Inuit knowledge and values, and take meaningful steps to protect our environment for future generations.
