(MKO) congratulates Sheila North on her historic appointment as the Winnipeg Police Service’s first external Indigenous Relations Advisor. Sheila’s leadership, advocacy, and lived experience make her uniquely qualified to guide meaningful change in the relationship between law enforcement and First Nations peoples.
A member of Bunibonibee Cree Nation and former Grand Chief of MKO, Sheila North has long been a tireless advocate for justice, especially for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2S+). Her voice has been instrumental in elevating the stories of families and survivors, and her work continues to inspire systemic transformation rooted in truth, respect, and reconciliation.
“Sheila North brings both strength and compassion to this role,” said MKO Grand Chief Garrison Settee. “Her lived experience and unwavering commitment to justice for Indigenous women and girls will help build bridges between communities and institutions.
