Press Release
September 12, 2025
Premier Mike Pemberton has issued the following statement:
“On September 10, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the members of the new Indigenous Advisory Council, which will play a central role in guiding the work of the new federal Major Projects Office.
“The council brings together 11 representatives from First Nations, Inuit, Métis and Modern Treaty and Self-Governing communities. Their voices will help ensure that the work of the federal Major Projects Office reflects Indigenous perspectives and priorities. Together, they will advise on ways to create opportunities for equity ownership, advance responsible resource development and support meaningful participation in major projects across Canada.
“We are especially proud to see that Kluane First Nation Citizen Kluane Adamek has been appointed to serve on this important national body. Since 2018, Ms. Adamek, whose traditional name is Aagé, has served as Yukon Regional Chief for the Assembly of First Nations. Ms. Adamek is a respected leader known for her advocacy, collaboration and vision and she will bring a wealth of experience to the council’s work.
“With Ms. Adamek’s leadership and that of the other appointees, the Indigenous Advisory Council will help shape a future where major projects reflect Indigenous perspectives and open doors to new opportunities. Their work will support nation-building and shared prosperity, with benefits felt across the north and throughout Canada.”
