Will the plans before the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal end discrimination against First Nations kids in care? – APTN News

This month marked ten years since the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal ruled that Canada discriminated against First Nations children by underfunding the child welfare system on-reserve, compared to off-reserve.

In the span of that decade, Canada spent substantial time and money in court pushing back against the Assembly of First Nations (AFN), the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society and the Tribunal, the two main agencies that brought the discrimination case to the Tribunal.

Now, two plans, one from Canada and one from the Caring Society, and the AFN’s National Chiefs’ Children’s Commission (NCCC), have been forwarded to the Tribunal.
