Call for applicants for a medical review officer

The Department of Health is searching for a review officer to appoint under the Medical Profession Act. The review officer must be a medical practitioner who is registered in Nunavut.

The review officer serves as the point of contact of any person who may file a complaint against a medical practitioner or registered medical student in Nunavut. Medical practitioners and registered medical students are also required to self-report to the review officer if they are incapable of practicing medicine or are unfit to practice medicine.

In handling complaints, the review officer may be responsible for:

  • Dismissing complaints that do not amount to improper conduct.
  • Referring matters to the fitness to practice committee.
  • Appointing investigators.
  • Recommending alternative dispute resolution.
  • Referring matters to a board of inquiry.

An Honorarium is paid as per Directive 810, GN Financial Administration Manual.
