Treaty One Territory, Winnipeg, Mb – Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak (MKO) stands in solidarity with the Algonquin Nation Kitigan Zibi Anishinābeg in Quebec after the tragic deaths of two children and their father. The loss of young lives is felt across all First Nations, and MKO acknowledges the emotional and spiritual weight carried by the community at this time.
Grand Chief Garrison Settee shared the following statement:
“On behalf of MKO, I extend my deepest condolences to the Nation of Kitigan Zibi Anishinābeg. We stand with you in grief and in prayer. MKO holds you close as you move through this painful time, and we honour the spirits of the young ones who were taken far too soon.”
MKO also offers condolences to all those affected by the high school shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. We extend sympathy to the students, families, educators, and first responders impacted by this terrible violence.
MKO urges anyone struggling in the wake of these tragedies to reach out to trusted supports or these crisis services.
