Dear Players, Families, and Fans of the Little Native Hockey League

Press Release

Mar 9, 2026

On behalf of the Chiefs of Ontario, it is my honor to welcome you to the Annual Little Native Hockey League (Little NHL) tournament, taking place from March 15-19, 2026, in Markham, Ontario. Co-hosted this year by Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory, this event brings an opportunity to continue our traditions, storytelling, and special events throughout the tournament. We extend our deepest gratitude to Ogimaa Tim Ominika, the Wiikwemkoong Council, and their dedicated team of volunteers. Your leadership in organizing this massive undertaking provides our youth with a stage to shine and a place to belong.

To Our Players: The Little NHL tournament provides an incredible opportunity for our youth to expand their knowledge about the values of fair play and sportsmanship, both on and off the ice. By representing each of your Nations, you are showcasing not only your excellence as athletes, but also pride, determination and the values that we as First Nations Peoples represent. Play with the culture and teachings of the seven generations before you, and for the seven generations which will follow.

To the Families: Little NHL would not exist without the tireless efforts and dedication of our players’ families and loved ones. You make the long travels possible for our youth to be able to participate in a sport that they love. We recognize the sacrifices that so many of you make to ensure that our players can be here, and we thank you endlessly for representing the foundation and strength as a people.

To the Fans and Supporters: The energy that you all bring to the arena every year is the foundation that the Little NHL is built upon. Now, more than ever, as the world around us showcases divisiveness, we must continue to live our teachings and lead with kindness, integrity and unity.

I hope you all enjoy the festivities of this week and hope that it will be filled with friendly competition, new friendships, and memories that will last a lifetime.
