More than 60 New Brunswick companies showcase their products in Boston

FREDERICTON  – More than 60 seafood businesses from New Brunswick participated in Seafood Expo North America this past weekend.

The event in Boston showcases the world’s leading fish and seafood producers and processors at the industry’s largest trade show in North America.

“The fish and seafood industry is a cornerstone of New Brunswick’s economy,” said Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Pat Finnigan. “Seafood isn’t just an industry here; it’s part of who we are as New Brunswickers. It supports thousands of jobs, drives our economy, and reflects generations of hard work along our coasts. Even with global uncertainty, our export growth shows how resilient and competitive our producers and processors are.”

Despite these economic uncertainties, the value of the province’s seafood exports surpassed $2 billion last year. This was an increase of 4.8 per cent compared to 2024 and accounted for a significant share of the province’s overall exports.

Representatives from various seafood-related businesses and organizations attended the expo to foster partnerships with existing clients, explore potential new markets and secure key sales opportunities.

“Building lasting relationships and diversifying markets are critical for the long-term success of our seafood sector,” said Finnigan. “Expanding into new markets not only bolsters New Brunswick’s global footprint, but also helps mitigate risks and opens doors for producers, processors, Indigenous partners and coastal communities.”

Finnigan said collaboration remains a driving force for advancing seafood trade, as the expo featured participation by federal and provincial government representatives, industry leaders and Indigenous communities, working together to secure the continued growth of New Brunswick’s seafood sector.
