21 First Nations have received payments, but status card card holders without band affiliation have not so far
Not everyone who is counting on a share of the $10 billion settlement for unpaid annuities under the Robinson Huron Treaty of 1850 has received it.
People from the territory who hold status cards — issued by Indigenous Services Canada — but who don’t have membership with a First Nation say they’re still waiting.
The money represents unpaid compensation from Canada and Ontario for 150 years of wealth generation from the territory.
