Burnstick bringing powerful folk sound to Portage – PortageOnline

A husband-and-wife duo known for their deeply personal songwriting and powerful performances is making a stop in Portage la Prairie this weekend, not far from their home in St. Claude.

Burnstick will take the stage at The Basement Theatre Saturday night at 7:00 p.m., in a show presented by the Whoop & Hollar Folk Festival.

The performance is part of their current Home Routes/Chemin Chez Nous tour, which includes 13 stops across southern Manitoba and the Pembina Valley.

The duo, consisting of Plains-Cree guitarist Jason Burnstick and francophone-Métis vocalist Nadia Burnstick, blend folk, roots, and Americana influences into a sound that has resonated with audiences across the country.

Their music has also reached beyond the stage. Jason Burnstick is an accomplished composer for film and theatre, while Nadia Burnstick’s voice has become a defining element of their work often described as both heartfelt and haunting.
