Press Release
April 14, 2026
Housing NWT has completed construction of a new three-bedroom modular duplex in Paulatuk, adding two new social housing units. These units replace homes that had reached the end of their service life, ensuring continued access to safe and suitable housing for families in the community. This project is part of ongoing efforts to address housing needs and support families across the Beaufort Delta region.
The new duplex was prefabricated and transported to Paulatuk for on-site assembly. This innovative construction approach helps shorten build timelines, manage costs, and reduce risks associated with remote construction, while ensuring the homes are designed for long-term durability in northern conditions.
By replacing older units, this capital investment maintains housing condition standards and supports the long-term sustainability of Paulatuk’s social housing system.
This initiative also advances the GNWT mandate commitment to increase the suitability, accessibility and affordability of housing across the Northwest Territory.
Delivering this new modular duplex in Paulatuk is part of the GNWT’s broader efforts to improve housing outcomes in smaller and remote communities, where access to safe and suitable housing plays a critical role in supporting family well-being and community stability.
Quote
“In a small, remote community on the Arctic coast like Paulatuk, even one new housing project can make a difference. The completion of this new modular duplex is an achievement worth recognizing as we continue to deliver more homes for Northerners. These new homes help families remain rooted in the community they call home and ensure access to safe, comfortable housing built for northern conditions”
– Lucy Kuptana, Minister Responsible for Housing NWT
