Forum sees over 2,500 participants – record attendance for a second year in a row.
Today, the Government of Saskatchewan hosted the first day of the 18th annual Saskatchewan Mining Supply Chain Forum in Saskatoon. This event is held in partnership with the Saskatchewan Mining Association (SMA) and the Saskatchewan Industrial and Mining Suppliers Association (SIMSA).
“Saskatchewan’s mining sector plays a vital role in the province’s economic prosperity,” Premier Scott Moe said. “Through this forum, we raise awareness of supply chain opportunities and highlight Saskatchewan’s essential role in supporting global food and energy security. By bringing industry together, we are helping to grow the sector while protecting jobs, communities, and the residents of our province.”
The two-day event, which runs April 15 and 16, brings together mining companies and suppliers to build connections and showcase the capabilities of Saskatchewan businesses that support the province’s mining ecosystem. The forum has a wide reach, with many companies participating from across Canada and around the world.
“SIMSA’s over 380 member companies greatly benefit from the forum,” SIMSA Executive Director Eric Anderson said. “It enables them to gather knowledge and meet face-to-face with executives from major mining companies that have operations in Saskatchewan.”
Saskatchewan leads Canada in mining investment, with an estimated $7 billion spent in 2025. According to the Fraser Institute, Saskatchewan ranks third globally for mining investment attractiveness. In recent years, the province has seen major investments in its mining sector by industry giants such as BHP, Nutrien, Mosaic, and Cameco.
“If you are in the mining business, the Saskatchewan Mining Supply Chain Forum is where you want to be,” SMA President Pam Schwann said. “Saskatchewan mining companies purchased over $3.2 billion in goods and services from Saskatchewan-based suppliers in 2025, including over $1 billion in goods and services from Indigenous-owned businesses. The relationships that make that level of success possible are strengthened here.”
The province also ranks first nationally for critical minerals production and is second in Canada for Indigenous employment in the mining industry. This further emphasizes the importance of the sector in creating jobs locally while ensuring critical mineral security globally.
The province’s resource sector helps to drive economic growth. Last year, private capital investment in Saskatchewan increased by 12 per cent to $13.6 billion, ranking first among provinces.
