A 50-year-old cultural centre in the Cape Mudge village on Quadra Island, housing priceless Kwakwaka’wakw potlatch artifacts, closed abruptly on April 8 due to a financial dispute between the We Wai Kai Nation and the museum’s operating society.
In a statement to its members on April 8, the We Wai Kai Nation said it has been “entangled in a long-standing disagreement” over the amount of money the Nation spends on the Nuyumbalees Cultural Centre.
